Is the G5 I was given worth hooking up?

I was given a G5 that someone had purchased and never used. I currently have a PC because that is what I needed for my work. However, I love Apple products, I have an iPhone and an iPad, and prefer that platform. Can I upgrade the OS and use it? I no longer am working on my computer and only need it for email, facebook, and documents: Word, Excel, Access, PP, etc... Would it be worth my time and energy or should I just pass it on?
